Mukhyamantri Vridhajan Pension Yojana (MVPY) – The Old Age Pension form system in Bihar
In the state of Bihar, the government has instituted a dedicated pension scheme for senior citizens the Mukhyamantri Vridhajan Pension Yojana (MVPY) which aims to provide financial support to older residents to help them live with dignity and security. Under this scheme, eligible applicants aged 60 or above can apply to receive a monthly pension payment. The application process is facilitated via a formal registration form (online or offline) that captures personal, bank and identity details, and once approved, benefits are routed through direct bank transfers.
What the form is and how it works?
The pension application form sometimes referred to simply as the MVPY registration form is the first step for senior citizens who wish to avail themselves of the pension benefit. The form requires details such as the applicant’s name, age (confirmation of being 60 years or older), address, Aadhaar number, bank account information (for the direct benefit transfer), and other supporting documents. Once the form is submitted and verified, the beneficiary’s name is entered into the system and monthly pension payments begin. The state uses the Social Security Pension Management Information System (SSPMIS) platform to manage registrations, track applications, and monitor payments.
Eligibility criteria
To qualify for this pension scheme, the applicant must:
Be a resident of Bihar.
Be aged 60 years or older.
Not be drawing any other government pension or family pension (for example from prior employment).
Previously, the scheme used to allow pensions of ₹ 1100 per month for ages 60+ however, these amounts were later substantially increased.
How much and when the payment is made
Until recently, beneficiaries aged 60–79 received ₹ 1100 per month and those aged 80+ received ₹ 1100 per month under MVPY. As of mid-2025, the Bihar government announced that eligible senior citizens would now receive ₹ 1,100 per month, effective from July 2025. Payments are made via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) directly into the beneficiary’s bank account, ensuring efficient and transparent disbursement.

Benefits & significance
The scheme plays a crucial role in providing a safety net for elderly persons who may lack other sources of income. By offering a steady monthly payment, the government of Bihar aims to reduce financial vulnerability in old age and enable senior citizens to meet basic living expenses without depending entirely on others. According to reports, by 2023-24, several million senior citizens were already benefiting from the scheme.
Important to remember
Filling the application form accurately and completely is essential; errors or incomplete details may lead to rejection or delay.
Ensure your bank account is active, properly linked to Aadhaar, and you have notified the bank of any changes.
Regularly check on the SSPMIS portal for the status of your application.
Once approved, the pension is paid regularly every month, but if any discrepancy occurs (e.g., no payment, lower amount), you can follow up with local block or social welfare office.
Although earlier amounts were modest, the recent increase to ₹1,100 per month makes the scheme more meaningful for older residents of the state.
In summary, for senior citizens in Bihar who are 60 years or older and meet the eligibility criteria, completing and submitting the MVPY pension registration form is the key step to accessing this state-run old age pension. With the process streamlined online and payments made via DBT, the scheme offers a straightforward path to financial support in one’s later years.
